I know the Emmys were a week ago, but I’m a working mother so forgive me if I’m behind everyone else on this topic. I’m not so interested in who won which award, but more interested in the dresses. I can be shallow sometimes and when it comes to fashion and style I certainly have my moments just the same as the best of us.
Award shows have always been about the dresses. It is the main reason I can sit through a three-hour TV show! I can tell you from experience, being on a red carpet breeds a certain kind of anxiety and is a VERY bizarre experience. For one, try smiling for 5-10 minutes straight… It’s nearly impossible! Your mouth gets dry, your lips stick to your gums, your face starts to twitch in weird places and you undoubtably end up looking really terrified and uncomfortable. Then there’s the body positioning- making sure your “good” side is being featured and your back is straight, stomach in (made easier for me with multiple pairs of spanx!) shoulders down, legs together, bent at the knee and hands hanging loosely or on one hip. It’s so much to remember, especially when there are over a hundred flashes going off in your face.
Back to the dresses… I was ecstatic to see so many curves on display. Christina Hendricks is a huge style inspiration to me. She is one of the few girls who has boobs bigger than mine and never shies away from highlighting them. And why should she? She’s gorgeous! She has done such an amazing job with this look- I see a woman who is confident, holding her head high and owning her beauty.
A favorite of mine is Kat Dennings, who I adore not only as a person but as a muse when I’m behind the lens. Here’s a Polaroid I took of her two years ago in my backyard:
and here she is at the Emmys rocking her signature red lips and matching dress.
Another lady who makes me proud of my shape is Sofia Vergara. I mean- come on!! I first saw her at a workout class I used to go to, and I had no idea she was an actress. But from one woman to another, I appreciated her sensuality and ease in her body. As it turns out, I am not the only one who noticed and appreciated how beautiful she is, as she has successfully brought voluptuous back into the main stream- and for that I am truly grateful.
Who were your favorite curvy women on this year’s Emmy red carpet?
