I agree with most of what you said. I’m a 45 year old single woman who
isn’t in a relationship at all. And I’m perfectly happy. However in your
article, you are guilty of perpetuating another stereotype. “die a sad life alone with a house full of cats for
companions” As much as I am tired of people who think that I’m unhappy because
I don’t have a man, I am equally tired of people who type me as the “crazy cat
lady” because I am single and have cats. Let’s stop making cat ownership an
example of loneliness.

So true. Great piece. Tired of people acting like its weird when a woman is not in a relationship or married. We do not need a man to validate anything. We can stand on our own and do things for ourselves.

Interviewers tend to ask
questions like these because they want to show the celeb as
"personable" or "relatable". Some may be plain ole nosey
but hey, isn't that part of their jobs?? I do not think that simply inquiring about someone’s
personal life should be looked at as problematic, because both male and female
celebs are approached with such questions. I do agree that most of us (myself included) feel that women in particular
"should" be married by a certain stage in life and when we find out
that she isn’t, celeb or not, we tend to wonder if there is something innately wrong
with her. We as a society need to challenge these traditional
typecasts, and realize that marriage simply may not be for everyone... or every
woman. However, if we are to challenge this notion, we need to also challenge the other traditional aspects of courting/dating/marriage - such as the fact that only
the engaged woman wears a ring, or that only the married woman changes her last
name. Just my two cents! Great job! -Yehwroe

Wonderful story! I didn't think women thought like that. That they needed a male figure to be validated successfully. I know I have never thought that and teach my daughters that they don't need to be married to a man/women in their life to be successful. Having companionship is a wonderful thing whether it be a man, women, friend or family member. It just enhances our lives.
